The Impact of Social Media on Travel [INFOGRAPHIC]

There’s no denying how online marketing and social media have transformed how we travel and how the travel industry has adapted (or is trying to) in order to respond to and exceed customer expectations. The folks at Fun Sherpa crafted this nifty infographic that captures well the depth of this phenomenon.

If you doubt that 70% of travelers update their Facebook status while on vacation, you’ll be interested to know that a recent survey by T-Mobile, published in the Daily Mail, showed that 4 out of 10 Britons log on to their Facebook and Twitter at least once a day while traveling abroad. Why? 60% of them take to social media to boast about “being away”, and 15% of them actually admitted to doing so just to make an ex-partner jealous!!

Have you taken a vacation this summer? How do you relate to the above mentioned facts about mobile and social media usage as part of your travel plans, before, during and after? Curious to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to comment in the section below.

Thanks for your breakdown of stats and with pictures too! Social media is no doubt a pervasive component of our travel experience these days. Check out my blog post on whether choosing your seatmate will positively enhance your flying experience. http://therantsinmypants.wordpress.com/2013/01/01/just-plane-picky/ I'd love to hear your thoughts!
